HEROW enables you to genenrate both types of notifications.

Local Notification (Geofence Notification)

The application is configured to locally generate the notification (not going through Apple and Google’s servers) and transmit it directly to the end-user's device

This is the case of HEROW, the SDK works with Local Notification triggered by a location entry/exit/dwell time.

Push Notification

The sending server pushes the content to the application remotely via Apple's Push Notification Service (APNS) for iOS and Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) for Android.

The transmission server (APNS or GCM) checks the push parameters (authorizations, application identity, push certificates) and sends the notification to the target end-user's device. Push notification are unrelated to HEROW locations (and geo-triggered "local" notifications).
